This guy got his mission call.... Why not me?

In case you haven't talked to me lately, (which most of you who read this blog do, so I don't really know why I feel compelled to keep a blog) I'm a bit anxious about my mission call that is supposedly coming in the mail some time in the not too distant future. I didn't think I would be so worried about it, I figured I'd get in the papers and then just leave it all up to the Lord and not worry about it anymore. But apparently I'm not faithful enough to turn over my life for 18 months and not worry about where or when I will be going.

So... My mission call may be in my mailbox and my roommates lost the key and tonight I got really desperate. After ransacking my apartment looking for the lost mail key, my good friend Steve and I decided to try our hands at lock picking. We found a helpful website where it is all mapped out. The only tools it required were crochet hooks, which I just happen to have laying around the house (thank you mom for teaching me to love crafts, apparently it's paying off). Anyway we went out in the pouring rain to attempt what may be a federal crime, I'm not really sure, I mean after all it is my mailbox and my mission call, it's not like I'm steeling my neighbors paycheck or anything. Two demolished crochet hooks and a drenched umbrella later, the only thing we had managed to do is possibly damage the lock so that no one on my block will be getting mail anytime soon. I guess we can just jot this down as another in the long list of Martha's stupid ideas, including the time I tried to run away with a suit case that contained nothing but my Barbie Fold 'n Fun House…. I built. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8--5lYEBi6U)

Well, ta ta for now, Happy Holidays (apparently it's national student employees' week, according to Steve's professor's wife) and may your mail be infinitely easier to retrieve than mine.

Brides to be... or not to be?

Okay, so Mary tagged me to do this and I just thought it sounded like a fun idea. Anyway, this is the 6th picture from the 6th folder in my My Pictures folder. This is from my freshman year of college, my roomates and I had gone on a trip to DI to find some wicked awesome decorations for our living room/kitchen. When we went by a rack of very stylish wedding dresses we just couldn't resist. I'm the one on the far right and on the far left is one of my bestest best friends Emily. In the middle is our roommate Devee, I wonder whatever happened to her. Anyway it was a fun bonding experience, and it was so great to find my wedding dress so far ahead of time, and at such a great price too.---- Thanks for the tag Mary.

4. What flavor do you add to your drink at Sonic? I get a strawberry/lime real fruit slushy-- not too sweet and not to tart

Always Good For A Laugh

I have long been of the opinion that I get teased more than anyone else I know. And for years time I thought it was because no one liked me. However a few years ago I realised that it's pretty much just because I provide comic relif and because I have a very teasable personality. There are a few things that go into having a teasable personality, some of which it might be better if I changed, but most of the things, I rather like about myself.

First off, to be teasable you have be a confident person. Most people, most nice people that is, don't want to pick on people when they tease them. They're not going to pick on the shy quite one, they're going to pick on the extroverted, self-assured one, because they're not likely to break down and cry.

Next a teasable person must be very trusting. Some might call this characteristic gullible, but I beg to differ. I tend to believe the things that people say to me, and I don't think that that's generally a bad thing. If my boss tells me that a member of our crew, that I don't know, swears like a sailor I'm naturally going to worry about who they interact with in the media. Now don't get me wrong, I can be skeptical too, but in general I like to believe that people aren't going to lie to me I think that's a good thing.

A teasable person must give off great reactions. This one I might want to change, but most of the time it's just in fun so I don't know yet. Ever since I was little, my mom told me that if I would just stop reacting to it, then John would stop teasing me. But I just can't do it, I really really can't, I've tried, believe me I've tried. But if someone is teasing me about a boy I like or some embarrassing thing that I said, I'm going to blush, if you tease me about what I'm wearing I'm going to be self conscious, and if you tease me about being a democrat you're probably biting off more than you can chew.

Finally, I think to be teasable, you can't wear your real emotions on your sleeve. I come from a pretty political family, not in that we're all politicians, but we are very good about putting on a happy face for the outside world. I don't know about most people, but even with the most friendly teasing, I have to double check and make sure the person isn't serious, that they don't hate me, and that they aren't trying to hurt my feelings. I don't think they ever mean to hurt my feelings, but sometimes there's just enough truth to what they say to make me keenly aware of my many imperfections. But like a good politician, I can usually put on a happy face, and smile for the cameras.

Sitting, Waiting, Wishing... or not

This last week was a bit crazy, but most weeks are for me so I guess it wasn't anything new. My brother John just got a job with my boss, so we get to work together rather often now, which I hope is going to be very fun. For those of you who don't know, I'm a sports producer on the BYU Sports Network, I spend most of my time in that job planning and organizing live sport broadcasts. It's a lot of fun, but also a lot of work and considerably more pressure than your average college job, but I've been working at the same place for the last 2 years now, so I must like it. This week we had a Women's Soccer game on Friday. Everything with planning went pretty well, but I'm starting to see some areas where I need to plan better.

I also got the opperunity to give a talk in church. The topic was Good, Better, Best, based on Elder Oaks talk in Octber of 2007. I loved writing the talk, and loved giving it even more. Maybe I'm attention starved or somthing, but I really do enjoy giving speeches, and church seems to be the only outlet for me to do that right about now.

Mom, Kirk, and Joey also came to visit this weekend. It was really great to see them again, I don't think I've seen them since June or something like that. Mom and Kirk looked great they're on this new diet which seems to be working wonders for them, I almost didn't recognize them. Joey is fun as usual, I can't believe that he's a senior in High School already.

Other than that I don't think there's anything too exciting. I'm still dating and what-not in Provo, but more and more I keep thinking that I like a guy, and then going on a date with him and finding that he's really not who I thought he was. I guess that's a theme with me. Maybe I should just try harder not to judge people before I get to know them.
